James Melia Won The Student Lighting Designer of The Year Award

Furniture and product design student James Melia has won the Student Lighting Designer of the Year award. James Melia, Student Lighting Designer of the Year with his winning entry: 'Kink' The award is part of the annual Student Lighting Design Awards which are organized by The Lighting Association. Second and third prizes went to Gregg Parsell and Sam Aylott respectively. All three were students from Nottingham Trent University. James Melia's winning design, 'Kink', is an energy-efficient table lamp, powered by 21 LEDs. The awards aim to encourage students to gain practical knowledge about the lighting industry and call on their skills to develop a functional lighting product. The designs had to utilize energy efficient technologies, be a functional product for use within the domestic environment and be suitable for mass production and retail. Commenting on his win, James said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to have won the top award. It's very gratifying, and terrific recognition for all the hard work I've put in over the last year."
