The Price of Polysilicon Has Been Increasing with The Return of Demand

The price of polysilicon has been increasing with the return of demand in the third quarter. Other segments of the supply chain such as solar wafers, cells and modules have all been stuck with low prices despite the return of demand. The spot price of polysilicon continues to remain at US$52-55/kg. The highest spot price of polysilicon appeared in China at US$55-60. Industry sources indicated the situation is a result of anticipated rising yields, plus small- and medium-size material firms can no longer operate at low prices, hence the price increases. Volume in the spot market has been limited as most downstream firms rely heavily on stable contract prices with suppliers. China-based first-tier solar firms indicated the price of solar cells continues to be depressed, hence cost control is crucial for downstream firms. The firms can only accept polysilicon quotes around US$50-55/kg. Source: www.digitimes.com
