China has said it will increase its 2015 solar goal by 67 percent, Bloomberg News reports.
Government officials say the new target is an attempt to reduce greenhouse gases; the announcement comes as smog in Beijing reached hazardous levels this month.
China, the world’s biggest emitter of CO2, says it will raise the solar target to 35GW by 2015 from 21GW set last year.
The increased demand for solar power is also expected to boost Chinese solar panel manufacturers sales, which have been slowing in the US and European markets.
