Foreign media reported on May 11 that, in April 2013, the Indian Railways revenue totaled approximately 110,091,700,000 rupees, an increase of 13.65% compared to the same period last year of 96,871,500,000 rupees.
In April 2013, the railway goods sales totaled 76.3735 billion rupees, an increase of 10.45% compared with the same period in 2012 of 69,146,000,000 Lu sales; total passenger revenues of 29,254,400,000 rupees, an increase of 22.67% compared with the same period in 2012 of 23848700000 Lu; other transportation revenue were 3.0282 billion rupees, an increase of 22.42% compared with 2.4737 billion rupees in the same period in 2012.
In April 2013, the total number of railway passengers amounted to approximately 689,480,000 people, an increase of 0.97% compared to the same period last year of 682,840,000 passengers. In April, suburban and non-suburban passengers were 366.61 million passengers and 322.87 million passengers, an increase of 6.78% and 4.90% respectively compared to the same period in 2012 of 343.32 million and 339.52 million.
