The US Department of Commerce (DOC) formally initiated Thursday its antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) investigations of rebar from Turkey and Mexico.

The DOC announced estimated dumping margins of 48.82 percent to 66.70 percent for Mexico and 35.01 percent to 36.99 percent for Turkey. These margins would be used only if the Mexican and Turkish producers selected as mandatory respondent do not participate in the investigations.

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has scheduled the vote in its preliminary injury investigation for October 18, 2013. If the ITC makes an affirmative injury determination, the DOC will continue with its investigations. However, if the ITC makes a negative determination (i.e., "no reasonable indication" of material injury), then the investigations will be terminated.
