Takeda Pharmaceutical Company said it will start using bio-polyethylene bottles (“Bio-PE bottles”) as the primary packaging container for the hypertension treatment product, Azilva.
Made from plastic derived from sugarcane-based bioethanol, the use of Bio-PE bottles are said to reduce carbon dioxide emissions as compared to conventional petroleum-derived polyethylene bottles.
These bottles contain more than 90% plant derived polyethylene and so are marked the same as Biomass-based Plastics, said the company.
The bottles were reportedly tested for critical functionalities such as moisture permeability and shock resistance, as well as their potential impact on the quality of tablets.
The results confirmed that they are functionally comparable to conventional polyethylene bottles.
