French engineering and technology consulting firm, Alten, is planning to set up an automotive testing facility in Chennai, India.
The facility is aimed at assisting automobile manufacturers surrounding Chennai to outsource testing of components including diesel engines and suspension systems.
Alten facility would use virtual simulation of driving conditions to test the components for its durability and emission standards, in addition to validation of the software and hardware used in engine control systems.
Alten Deputy CEO Gerald Attia was quoted by the Business Line as saying that with several global auto majors bringing in R&D to India, such a testing facility will come in handy.
"We are talking to some of the leading car manufacturers to use our facility," Attia said.
The consulting firm is already working with vehicle manufacturers including Renault and Daimler in Europe and would extend the testing facility to them in Chennai.
Initially aimed at testing hybrid electric vehicles, the facility would also target Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and part makers.
