Turkey's Monthly Industrial Production Index Declined by 3.8 Percent Year on Year

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in December 2012 Turkey's monthly industrial production index declined by 3.8 percent year on year, following the 11.3 percent increase recorded in November 2012, which was the strongest rise since September 2011. Meanwhile, the seasonal and calendar adjusted industrial production index decreased by 3.6 percent compared to the previous month.

The production index in the country's manufacturing industry recorded a 3.6 percent decrease in December 2012, after a 13.3 percent increase in November, both compared to the same month of the previous year.

In December last year, the production index for the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey fell 1.9 percent year on year, after recording the strongest year-on-year rise since February 2011 in the previous month with 20.1 percent, and was down 7.1 percent from November. Meanwhile, the output index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products rose by three percent year on year, following the 21.4 percent year-on-year rise in November, and was down by 2.2 percent compared to the previous month.

The annual average production increase of the basic metal industry in Turkey was 7.5 percent in 2012, up from the average of 6.8 percent recorded in 2011, but down from the average of 10.4 percent recorded in 2010. In fabricated metal products manufacturing, the average rise of the production index was 6.2 percent in 2012, below the 15.1 percent recorded in 2011 and the 19.7 percent average of 2010.
