Gillinder Glass Is Celebrating 100 Years in Port Jervis in 2013

Gillinder Glass is celebrating 100 years in Port Jervis in 2013, and to commemorate this milestone, wants to produce a very special sun catcher — "one that honors our area volunteers or service people."

To do this, the glassmaker is hosting a "Design a Sun Catcher" contest. Last year's theme was a sun catcher depicting Port Jervis. The winning design, a train, was submitted by John Nivens, a Port Jervis High School student.

Designs may be created by hand or by using a computer drawing program. Submissions are due by Feb. 28. A panel of local judges will select the winnier on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gillinder Glass Store. The public is invited to attend and will also be able to cast a collective single vote.

The winning designer will be invited to the Gillinder Glass Factory to make the first production sun catcher and will be presented with this first sun catcher as a gift. The winner will also receive recognition in all press releases and advertising (with their permission) and will be represented in the 2014 Gillinder Glass Collector's Edition Calendar, as will the first and second runners-up.
