Mini Has Decided to Ditch The Current Centre-Mounted Speedometer

Mini has decided to ditch the current centre-mounted speedometer, in an interior design overhaul that will see the next-generation move to a more functional design.

The speedometer has been moved from the Mini's central position to behind the steering wheel, just above the steering column. There's also a rev counter attached on the left side.

The large round bezel in the centre of the dash will instead house radio and telephone controls, with high-spec models gaining a larger screen for satellite navigation.

Mini Australia today confirmed with CarAdvice that the new Mini would indeed receive major interior changes, but wouldn't be drawn on specifics.

While the 2014 Mini will also receive fresh exterior styling, the brand's iconic design cues such as the Mini grille and round headlamps will remain.
