Global packaging services provider MeadWestvaco (MWV) has announced a 4% decrease in carbon emissions since 2010 in its corporate responsibility report for 2012.
MWV has also reduced water usage by 5% and half of its global manufacturing facilities are now said to be zero-waste, with landfill diversion rates of 95% or greater.
MeadWestvaco chairman and CEO John Luke Jr said that sustainability requires a long-term view.
"Whether it's responsible sourcing, sustainable forest management, efficient operations or employee wellness, we strive to assure our actions today will have a positive impact on future generations," Luke added.
The report also highlighted the company's new sustainable packaging products and projects that have been designed to reduce the environmental impact of its global facilities and community investments as well as philanthropy.
A scorecard measuring MWV's progress toward sustainability targets established in 2012 was also showcased in the report, which include plans to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and water use, increase the use of certified fiber, and reuse waste.
MeadWestvaco provides packaging solutions to the brands in the healthcare, beauty and personal care, food, beverage, home and garden, tobacco, and agricultural industries.
