The GS1 Institute Designs Ndustry Training Packages and Delivers Trusted Knowledge

The GS1 Institute designs industry training packages and delivers trusted knowledge in the supply chain to GS1 Australia members, GS1 Australia staff and academia.

GS1 Australia is using its 35 years of experience in administering the GS1 System of bar coding and numbering in launching the newly inaugurated GS1 Institute to educate and train Australian businesses in supply chain and logistics best practices.

Launched by Steven Pereira, GS1 Australia's CIO and head of GS1 Institute at GS1 Australia's Supply Chain Week 2013, the institute aims to consolidate years of member training in the GS1 System into a program of specialised education and training curriculum. The institute will specifically benefit GS1 Australia members as they look to adopt global best practices based on the GS1 System of Standards to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in their supply chains.

"The GS1 Institute concept has been in development for many years. The establishment and launch of the institute demonstrates GS1 Australia's commitment to the development of our current and future business leaders and supply chain and logistics professionals, as well as the up-skilling of current practitioners with the knowledge to help them face the challenges of a technologically driven supply chain," said Mr Pereira.

The GS1 Institute understands the challenges of staff training and education in business. Training packages are designed with industry in mind and tailored to incorporate the latest research, theory and best practice from Australia's leading industries and tertiary institutions.

"Businesses today are increasingly looking towards training and education as a way to develop their staff to harness the latest innovative solutions and information-rich technologies for supply chain optimisation.

"If you want practical training and education solutions applied to the real-world supply chain challenges of today, our new GS1 Institute aims to deliver these," added Mr Pereira.

Under the auspices of GS1 Australia's Melbourne and Sydney offices, the institute provides classroom and online training and practical case driven educational sessions in GS1 Australia's internationally award-winning Supply Chain Knowledge Centre in Melbourne. All of these provisions advocate the following values:

Act in partnership in the educational development of supply chain professionals. Pursue excellence in supply chain learning within industry and academia. Offer relevant and engaging training to GS1 Australia's members, technology providers, higher education and vocational partners.

GS1 Australia's staff will also benefit from the curriculum provided by the GS1 Institute.

"It is very important that our staff be up-to-date with developments in the GS1 standards, so as to assist our members with the current best practices," added Mr Pereira.

The newly inaugurated GS1 Institute also partners with many of Australia's leading universities, teaching institutions and industry associations to deliver customised subjects about the GS1 System across many disciplines. This collaboration also supports Australian industries' vocational training and professional requirements.

"The drive of GS1 Australia's education and training team is to deliver trusted knowledge of global best practices, not only to today's supply chain and logistics practitioners, but also to Australia's future supply chain leaders," added Mr Pereira.
