Enfield Ready for Track Laying

Construction of Sydney Ports’ Intermodal Logistics Centre (ILC) at Enfield is progressing, with part of the site almost ready for handover to the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

Works including a 200-metre bridge, construction of a 400-metre-long and five-metre-high noise wall, north rail connection works on RailCorp land and frog ponds are complete.

The rest, including civil works to empty container storage and warehouse areas, ramp pavement to the bridge, rail through-road permanent way, asphalt paving of the intermodal terminal area and bringing mains power to the site are progressing well, with completion dates set for the middle and third quarter of 2013.

The intermodal terminal area, including the 2,000-metre rail through-road and two, 920-metre rail sidings, will be handed over fully paved and ballasted.

The site’s southern area is the first to be handed over to the ARTC, allowing work to begin on the south rail connection.

The 60-hectare Enfield facility will provide rail network connections and sidings, storage warehouses, empty container parks and light industrial and commercial floor space.

With trade at Port Botany forecast to double over the next 15 years, the ILC will handle up to 300,000 TEU each year.

Its location on the main freight line and close to the Hume Highway allows the facility to be a major part of Sydney Ports’ plans to double the number of container movements to and from Port Botany by rail.
