The preliminary design of China's third-generation nuclear power technology CAP1400 with an independent intellectual property right has passed the panel demonstration organized by the National Energy Administration and the demonstration project will start construction in Weihai, Shandong in 2014 and connect grid to generate electricity at the end of 2018, according to the Chinese Nuclear Society.
CAP1400 is researched and developed in accordance with China's latest requirements for nuclear safety after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, with reference to the latest international standards and taking a series of measures to strengthen nuclear safety and fortify earthquakes, external flood and other extreme natural disasters. The passive safety system has the after 72-hours water replenishment capacity ensure the safety of nuclear stations.
