ATHENS, GA (BRAIN) – Organizers of the Southeast Bike Expo say after a successful inaugural year they will hold the show again in February 2013, but are adding a day for dealers only.
The dealer day will precede the show, Friday, Feb. 22. The expo will open to the general public Feb. 23-24. The Southeast Bike Expo will return to the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia, but will move to the Grand Prix Plaza.
"This gives us a more secure expo area that is enclosed by fence," said the expo's Brian Molloy. "This unique outdoor demo area has space for more than 1,000 vendors and is more consumer friendly."
Organizers said the event drew 70 vendors and more than 1,000 consumers who could test ride bikes. Exhibitors included Trek, Giant, Norco, Shimano and Niner, among others. The Georgia International Horse Park has a 1.5-mile road bike test loop and access to world-class trails as the location for the 1996 Olympic Games cross-country race.
The Southeast Bike Expo donated $3,300 to IMBA/SORBA and it will partner with them for 2013. It's also adding a metric century ride on Saturday.
"Our goal is to put on a fun event in a great location for very low cost to manufacturers, retailers and consumers," Molloy added.
