German automaker Audi is set to invest EUR150m to commence the production of cars in S?o José dos Pinhais, Brazil by 2015.
This new investment will see the production of the new Audi Q3 and the new A3 Sedan in the country. The new A3 Sedan production will start in 2015, followed by the Audi Q3 a few months later.
Audi board of management procurement member Bernd Martens said: "For the production of the A3 Sedan, we want to purchase a lot of components locally; we therefore plan to establish close relationships with Brazilian suppliers at an early stage."
Audi plans to commence production at its second plant in China in Foshan. It also plans to produce cars in Mexico as of 2016.
Commenting on the new investment, Audi CEO Stadler said, "With today's decision in favor of Brazil, we are ideally positioned in all BRIC countries."
With the new facilities in Brazil and Mexico, Audi is preparing for further growth worldwide and in particular on the South American continent. The car maker plans to make large investments at its large production sites in Germany and Hungary to reach its goal to deliver two million cars to its customers worldwide each year.
