The Luxury Division of CMG Will Operate Under The Banner of Scott & DuVal

The new luxury division of Carolina Mattress Guild will operate under the banner of Scott & DuVal and will introduce high-end beds at next month's High Point Market, the company announced.

The new division represents a partnership between CMG owners Neal and Kathy Grigg and Eric Hinshaw, the former CEO of Kingsdown.

The working name for the luxury division was Carolina Knights, but Hinshaw and the Griggs have changed the brand name to Scott & DuVal, a name that is rooted in the histories of the Grigg and Hinshaw families.

Grigg, president of CMG, is a descendant of the DuVal family, which traces its history to the Loire Valley of France in the 15th century. Notable members of that family included his grandmother, Susan DuVal Grigg, one of the first female pharmacists in the United States.

Hinshaw is a descendant of the Scott family, which fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in the Revolutionary War under Gen. Nathanael Greene, for whom Greensboro, N.C., was named.

"We believe that the Scott & DuVal name exemplifies our commitment to a history of quality," said Hinshaw, who spent more than three decades at Kingsdown as CEO before announcing his retirement a year ago. "I believe the world will see the innovation and craftsmanship found in the products of this new venture live up to our lofty heritage."

Each of the models produced under the Scott & DuVal brand will feature meticulous attention to detail, said Hinshaw, who came out of retirement to join the Griggs in the launch of their new luxury division.

The tag line for the new line is: "International Purveyors of Luxurious Sleep."

Scott & DuVal's debut introductions for High Point will utilize "creative foams" and innerspring base constructions, according to Hinshaw.

"The premiere Scott & DuVal products are not tied to any specific genre," he said. "Though all the products will be wrapped in luxury, the sleep systems themselves will use the newest and most innovative constructions, whether foam or innerspring based, that provide the consumer proper support and maximum comfort."

He said the covers, borders and bases will have a look "that has never been seen before, but at the same time, will exude Old World elegance and a feeling of opulence. Most consumers are first drawn to an ultra-premium bed by its appearance, but are sold by feel and comfort. We plan on capturing their heart at first sight."

CMG, which shows in Space 100 in the Furniture Plaza building, is redesigning its showroom for the launch of the Scott & DuVal line.
