Indonesian Industry Minister M.S, Hidayat said on Monday that the country has set furniture export target at 2 billion U.S. dollars this year along with recovery in global economy.
"The wood-based industry in the country is estimated to grow significantly as the market will get recovered this year. It may rise up to more than 2 billion U.S. dollars," the minister said on the sidelines of opening the 2013 International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (Iffina 2013) here.
He said that the export figure estimation was almost similar to the one attained by the country's furniture exports before the economy crisis hit global economy in 2008. Indonesia's furniture exports are now valued at 1.6 billion U.S. dollars, shipped to main destination countries of the United States, France, Japan, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
The country recorded 1.41 billion U.S. dollars of furniture exports last year on the back of enormous rattan furniture export growth by 41 percent to 202 million U.S. dollars from 141 million U.S. dollars in 2011, the minister said.
