Switzerland-based auto components manufacturer Kringlan Composites has signed a deal with the Netherlands-based TenCate Advanced Composites to develop automotive parts using thermoplastic technologies.

Under the deal, the manufacturer will use the thermoplastic composite technology developed by TenCate for production of carbon fiber-reinforced composite wheels for high performance cars.

The manufacturer will focus on production of high performance wheels that would offer decreased weight as well as reduced fuel consumption.

In recent years, Kringlan Composites has developed a patented technology which can be used in the future for the series production of composites wheels, which comply with high performance standards.

Additionally, the acceleration of light weight wheels are expected to use lower energy and deliver lower CO2 emissions from the vehicle, while reducing about 30% to 40% weight.

Till date, TenCate used its know-how in thermoplastics for the aerospace industry. It has lead to a leading position based on the portfolio of TenCate Cetex materials. With the deal, TenCate expects to expand its technology offerings as well as position in the automotive sector in the future.
