The trade group is voicing concern over the House’s proposed budget for the Dept. of Interior, Forest Service, and the Environmental Protection Agency, which directly impact land management and access opportunities.
House appropriators’ proposal to Congress slashes funding to the subcommittee that oversees the three federal departments to 14% below current levels, some 18% below what Congress allocated before sequestration and 20% below Pres. Obama’s budget request. The OIA contends that such double-digit percentage reductions will result in more national park closures, reduced wildfire protections, more threats to clean rivers and streams, and fewer youth and educational programs.
