AAF Has Prompted The Federation to Meet in Sydney Next Year During Aerosolsydney2014

Australia's central role in the formation of the Asian Aerosol Federation (AAF) has prompted the federation to meet in Sydney next year during aerosolsydney2014, the triennial conference of the Aerosol Association of Australia.

The Asian federation, under the presidency of Lindsay Showyin, the immediate past president of the Australian association, will hold its annual meeting at the final day of the local association's Sydney event, which runs from 1-4 April.

Showyin, who was a driving force in the formation of the Asian federation, stepped down from the presidency of Australia's association earlier this year to make way for new president, John Bigley of Ardagh Australasia (packagingnews.com.au, September 19).

While Bigley now heads-up the Australian organisation, Showyin still retains his leadership of the Asian Aerosol Federation, a role he has filled since its formation in China in 2011.

Bigley told PKN that Showyin's continued role in the Asian grouping has been vital in maintaining the country's input in the regional aerosol industry, and was important in securing the decision by the Asian federation to meet in Australia next year.

"Along with our presidency of the AAF, aerosolsydney2014 will place our Association at the centre of developments to secure our industry's future," the Australian Aerosol Association's Bigley told PKN.

The Asian federation brings together the aerosol industry bodies of Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Thailand and Japan.

Its foundation was built on discussions chaired by Showyin in Sydney earlier in 2011.

The aerosolsydney2014 event, meanwhile, will encompass a four-day series of events under the theme Towards a Sustainable Future.

As well as a series of educational workshops and aerosol factory tours, delegates from the region will gather at Sydney's National Maritime Museum on 3 April for a full-day conference to discuss challenges facing the industry and strategies to enhance its environmental credentials.
