Solar Firms Have Been Careful About Choosing Expansion Locations to Avoid Getting Taxed

Uncertainty causes solar firms to expand with caution Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Thursday 24 May 2012]Europe and India are likely to conduct similar investigations as those carried out by the US against China-based solar firms, according to industry sources.Solar firms have been careful about choosing expansion locations to avoid getting taxed.

Taiwan-based solar wafer firm Green Energy Technology(GET)recently announced it is considering renting manufacturing facilities in China to lower production costs.

Solar wafer makers in China reportedly planned to increase prices before the announcement of the anti-dumping duties by the US government. After the announcement, the possibility of price increases disappeared because solar cell makers no longer want to produce products in China. This means domestic demand for solar wafers will decrease.

In addition, industry sources added, there is a chance that Europe will begin their anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations against China-based solar firms.Furthermore, uncertainty still lurks in Europe's solar market due to unclear incentive policies. The uncertainty has been causing firms to reconsider adding workers and expanding capacity.
