According to statistics released by the US Census Bureau, the US’s preliminary steel imports totaled 2.43 million tons in April, rising by 4.3% from 2.33 million tons in March but falling by 14.8% in comparison of 2.85 million tons in the same period of a year ago.
In April, the country’s imports of semi-finished steel products totaled 527,254 tons, rising by 17%; those of cut-to-length plates were at 92,526 tons, soaring by 52.6%; those of plate in coils were at 104,260 tons, jumping by 58.8%, all compared to a month earlier.
However, the imports of rebar slumped by 75.2% to 34,770 tons; those of hot dipped galvanized steel sheets and strip declined by 14.9% to 146,124 tons.
