Uflex Planning to Build a $325m Packaging Plant in The City of Ahmedabad in Gujarat

Indian flexible packaging firm Uflex is planning to build a new $325m packaging plant in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

Scheduled to start production in early 2016, the new plant is part of the company's three-year investment plan to grow business.

Uflex chairman and managing director Ashok Chaturvedi said: "Initially, the plant capacity would be pegged at 80,000 [metric] tons, and we would double the capacity in the second phase to 160,000 tonnes yearly to make it the largest flexible packaging plant in India at one location under one roof.

"We have no presence in the western part of the country, and the Ahmadabad plant would cater to the western and southern Indian market."

The company also plans to expand business internationally and aims to select a location for the new plant by March or April next year.

Chaturvedi said: "We are working on three or four locations, but the decision will depend on market size and proximity to the customer."

Established in 1983, Uflex currently has 11 facilities in India that manufactures polyester and biaxially oriented polypropylene films.Apart from India, Uflex currently has packaging plants in the UAE, Mexico, Egypt, Poland and the US.
