Opel Will Manufacture Certain Models of Its Astra

German automobile manufacturer Opel will manufacture certain models of its Astra, Cascada and Insignia vehicles that will be sold in Australia under the Holden brand, which is a subsidiary of the US automaker General Motors (GM).

Holden will sell Opel models such as the Astra GTC and the Astra VXR also known as Opel Astra OPC as well as the Cascada convertible and the OPC version of the Insignia sedan in Australia.

All the variants will be manufactured by Opel at the European plants and will be on sale starting from 2015.

Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann said the company is pleased to manufacture the automobiles at its European plants for Holden.

"This is the second piece of good news regarding exports within just a few weeks," Neumann added.

"Around one month ago, we were able to announce that we will be manufacturing Buick vehicles for the American market in our Rüsselsheim plant."

Holden CEO Gerasimos Dorizas said, "Thanks to the strong and long-established cooperation between the GM brands in Europe and Australia, we can offer our customers outstanding products with top technology."
