Sweden's Exports of Softwood Lumber and Planed Products Were 9% Lower Than Last Year

Sweden’s exports of softwood lumber and planed products in September were almost 9% lower than last year’s level at roughly 865,900 m3. The cause of the sharp decline was the reduction in exports to buyers in Europe, which fell by almost 15% to 611,500 m3. Exports to Asia were also a long way off last year’s level, falling by just under 11% to 120,200 m3.

Growth of almost 25% in exports to Africa to 124,000 m3 and increases in exports to the USA were ultimately not sufficient to compensate for the reductions in Europe and Asia. In spite of the reduced exports in September, the value for the first nine months remains 1.4% higher than last year’s level at a total of around 8.94m m3 of softwood lumber and planed products.
