According to Latin America Steel Association Alacero's data, China exported 13.9 million tons of finished steel to the world in the second quarter of this year, which is 10% more than the first quarter and 8% more than the same period last year. Main Chinese exports were flat steel products, about 7.2 million tons, long steel exports amounted 5.4 million tons and wire rod stood among long products with 2 million tons. Latin America is still the second most important destination of Chinese steel exports, only surpassed by South Korea. The Chinese exports to this region experienced a record high in this second quarter, reaching 1.5 million tons which is 55% more than the first quarter and 29% more than same period last year. The top 5 destination countries of Chinese steel exports are: Brazil, Chile, Peru, Central America and Ecuador, these countries represented 76% of 1.5 million tons from China in the second quarter.
