GE's digital energy business' smart meters have achieved Underwriters Laboratories (UL) voluntary safety certification, the first meters in the industry to do so. Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) is deploying GE's UL-certified smart meters as part of the utility's grid modernization initiative, which includes the installation of approximately four million meters across ComEd's service area.
GE's smart meters are also fully compliant with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) industry standards for performance and safety.
