German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new GLA sport utility vehicle (SUV), ahead of its global debut at the forthcoming International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt to be held during 12 to 22 September 2013.
The new SUV is expected to be offered with four powertrain options, including a 156bhp 1.6L petrol engine for the GLA 200, a 211bhp 2.0L unit in the GLA 250, a 136bhp 2.1L diesel engine for the GLA 200 CDI and 170bhp 2.1L diesel unit in the GLA 220 CDI variant.
According to the German carmaker, the new SUV is the fourth of its total of five new compact models and will be offered with new permanent all-wheel drive system 4MATIC, with fully variable torque distribution.
Safety features incorporated in the new model include collision prevention assist, adaptive brake assist, and attention assist.
Mercedes-Benz will take orders for the new SUV from late November 2013, with sales scheduled to commence in Europe during 2014.
