The 'Household Waste – Saved from Landfill' range is manufactured from flexible plastics collected in the UK and is claimed to be a world first for the recycling and film industries.
Launched at the Recycling and Waste Management show this week, the product is made from material that is collected at kerbside in the UK, then recovered into pellets at a Cedo facility in Holland before being converted into bags at the company's plant in Telford.
The launch is aimed at tackling the domestic waste stream for fleixlble plastics
While the product is initially made of 30% recycled material, the group has outlined plans to increase that to 90% within two years.
In the first stage, the company has capacity to produce 7,000 tonnes of recycled plastic for use in the bags.
Bags made from the material will initially be sold under Cedo's own brand although it is hoped that supermarket own-label binliners – of which Cedo is a major supplier – will soon follow suit.
Cedo technical development director David Brookes, who has played a key role in the five-year development of the process, told Packaging News: "There is huge pressure to divert waste from landfill and targets won't be fulfilled without pushing on with flexibles."
