Yahoo Japan has signed a deal with leading Japanese office products supplier Askul to set up a jointly-operated e-commerce business.
Under the agreement, Yahoo Japan, the operator of Japan's most popular internet portal site, will buy newly-issued common shares of Askul for Y33 billion (A$412m).
The transaction will give Yahoo Japan a 42.60 per cent stake in Askul, well-known as a mail order distributor of office supplies and other goods.
Yahoo Japan is a unit of the Japanese mobile phone and internet service company Softbank Corp., which holds a 42 per cent stake. US-based Yahoo Inc. holds a one-third stake in the Japanese portal.
