Residents in Beijing May Have a Second Chance to Get Hold of a License Plate

Residents in Beijing may have a second chance to get hold of a license plate other than waiting for a magical win at the lottery system.

The Beijing Higher Court will hold its year's first legal auction of 30 impounded cars with license plates, according to the Beijing News.

The Beijing newspaper says these licensed cars will probably be auctioned on November 26.

It is estimated that this auction will attract car buyers who do not have a license plate.

The auction is also one of the moves the court is trying to avoid more failed auctions.

Impounded cars were normally not licensed in previous auctions.

This made some people unwilling to or unable to participate in the auction as they do not have a license plate.

The municipal government of Beijing set limits for the number of license plates issued in the city in 2010, in a bid to control heavy traffic and cut emissions.

Car buyers have to enter a lottery system to get a license plate before they purchase a vehicle.

In August 2014, a total of 2 million people applied for license plates, with a mere 20,000 winning in each round of lottery every two months.
