The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced that Saladexpress, located in Saint-Rémi, Quebec, has been fined for violating the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Regulations.
CFIA noted that Saladexpress marketed the ice iceberg lettuce imported from the US to the province of Quebec in containers with a capacity exceeding 50 kg net, which was in violation to the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Regulations.
The Court of Quebec fined the company a total of $10,000 plus costs, with 60 days to pay.
CFIA is responsible for administering and enforcing a variety of federal legislation, including the Canada Agricultural Products Act and its regulations related to the marketing of agricultural products in import, export and inter-provincial trade.
