People in The UK Are Set to Be Hit Hard in The Pocket Once Again by Energy Producers

People in the UK are set to be hit hard in the pocket once again by energy producers in the country.

Indeed, EDF Energy is set to increase its prices this Friday (December 7th) by 10.8 per cent for gas and electricity.

The average household bill for dual fuel EDF customers is now expected to go up from £1,202 to £1,332 a year.

EDF's increase represents the last of the big six suppliers in the UK to implement a price hike this side of Christmas, though E.ON has frozen its prices for the rest of the year.

Director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com said the high cost of energy is already burning a hole in consumers' pockets and this winter's price hikes will only serve to make the situation worse for families just in time for Christmas.

As the nights get longer, darker and colder, 87 per cent are expected to be rationing their energy usage because of the cost, while 75 per cent of households went without heating at some point last winter for the same reason.

Ms Robinson said people are already scared of the prices of their bills this winter, so this could see more families choosing to go cold instead of fork out for the energy.

"There are better and safer ways for consumers to protect themselves from higher energy prices - making your home more energy efficient will cut the amount of energy you use and moving to a more competitive tariff will cut the amount you pay for what you do use. These two steps will help you to keep a lid on your bills," she continued.

These price rises could hasten people's move towards LED ceiling lights in the home as energy secretary Ed Davey said last week that some households could enjoy cash back on their future bills by using greener lights.
