The 3rd China-South Asia Expo and 23th China Import & Export Fair, Kunming, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and Yunnan Provincial People’s Government, opened in Kunming,the capital city of Yunnan Province on June 12. Vice President of People's Republic of China Li Yuanchao attended the opening ceremony and made a keynote speech, Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Before the opening ceremony, Vice Minister Wang Shouwen, Governor of Yunnan Province Chen Hao,and Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Yu Ping jointly unveiled the plaque for Thailand, the theme country of GMS countries ,and the plaque for Indian, the theme country of South Asia Expo, and accompanied Vice President Li Yuanchao to the exhibition halls.
After the opening ceremony, Vice Minister Wang Shouwen accompanied vice President Li Yuanchao to meetwith Thongsing Thammavong, Prime Minister of Laos, M. L. Panadda Diskul, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Parliamentary Speaker of Bangladesh, Hoang Trung Hai, Vice Premier of Vietnam, Indian Foreign Minister Singh and Sunil Bahadur Thapa, Nepal's minister for commerce and supplies.
The China-South Asia Expo covered an area of 123,000 square meters, with 12 exhibition halls and 6,150 standard booths, over 50% of which were for foreign exhibitors and the scale was doubled compared with that of last session.
