By this amendment the Italian government wants to reiterate ILVA faculty of trading its own products, including those produced before the Decree issuing date and presently confiscated.
The Environment Minister, Mr Corrado Clini, will soon present the amendment to Chamber of Deputy. By doing so, the gvernment is trying to tackle the decision of Taranto Attorney that was refusing to release the products.
To the Attorney decision, Ilva reaction was extremely tough, announcing that 4000 people would have been immediately left home. “Following today Attorney reject of Ilva request of applying the Decree 207 dated 03.12.2012, Ilva inform about the dramatic consequences that such decision will create on employment levels and economic situation of the Company”.
From now and during next week, about 1400 workers, mainly working in cold rolling & Pipes mills and relevant services will be jobless. These worker are thus added to the 1200 already under redundancy system due to market situation and damages created by the hurricane of Nov 28th.
“But, Ilva communication continues, will then close down he plants of Novi Ligure, Genoa, Racconigi, Salerno, Hellenic Steel of Thessaloniki, Tunisacier of Tunis as well as the plants owned in France, the SSC of Torino, Milano and Padua and the maritime equipment in Marghera and Genoa. All this will imply, while waiting to reinstall the minimum necessary stock for restarting the production processes, a problem of redundancy that will involve about 2500 workers. The worst situation will be in Genoa and Novi Ligure wher about 1500 workers (1000 in Genoa and 500 in Novi) will be left home.”
Thus the grand total of workers threatened to be left home is reaching 4000 units.
