On Thursday, a Thai court found two Myanmar suspects guilty of murdering two British tourists in 2014 and handed them the death penalty.
In September 2014, British citizens Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found dead while vacationing in Thailand.
Weeks later, Thai police arrested two migrant workers from Myanmar Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Tun. The police said the two had confessed their crimes, but both later retracted their confessions, which they said were forced.
The case has been mired in controversy, including allegations of police incompetence and mishandling of evidence.
The brother of victim David Miller, Michael said says his family respected the court's decision on Thursday.
"David always stood up for justice, and justice is what has been delivered today. We respect this court and its decision completely. As the trial has progressed, we came to realise that the police investigation and the forensic work performed was not the so-called shambles it was made out to be. We believe that after a difficult start, the Royal Thai Police conducted a methodical and thorough investigation."
The defense team says it will appeal Thursday's verdict.
