The work conference of economic and commercial counsellor's offices in Chinese embassies and consulate generals was held in Beijing on February 27-March 2. General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Premier Li Keqiang made important directions and instructions respectively, fully affirming the achievements gained by the economic and commercial counsellor's offices, and making clear requirements to the work of the economic and commercial counsellor's offices under the new situations.
Vice Premier Wang Yang talked with the representatives and delivered a speech. State Councilor Yang Jiechi attended the conference and made a report on the international situation.
It is pointed out at the meeting that the economic and commercial counsellor's offices are an important part of China’s diplomatic missions, undertaking the important responsibilities to boost bilateral and multilateral trade and economic cooperation. For a long time, the staff and employees of the economic and commercial counsellor's offices have worked hard and made great contributions to promoting China’s opening up and economic and social development and serving our country’s diplomatic work.
The conference stressed that the international political and economic pattern is undergoing deep adjustment currently, the world economic recovery is arduous, China’s economic development steps into the new normal, and reform and opening up goes into a new stage, all of which put forward new and higher requirements to the work of the economic and commercial counsellor's offices. We should sincerely study and understand General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang’s important directions and instructions, adopt a long-term perspective, consider the overall situation, strengthen our conviction, keep our mission in mind, transform the functions, capture the orientation, make overall plans and coordinate, adopt correct methods, set up correct ideas of moral and profit, deepen reciprocal cooperation with all other countries and regions, and play well the ballast and propeller role of economic and trade cooperation, to comprehensively promote the level of economic diplomacy.
The conference required that the economic and commercial counsellor's offices should promote the level of investigation and research, being the clairvoyant and clairaudience of domestic decisions. They should increase their ability of service and coordination, acting as a go-between and convoy to enterprises going out and being home to investors and operators abroad. They should promote delicacy management and comprehensive benefit of foreign aid. They should pay attention to promoting the capability of taking part in global economic governance and reconstitution of economic and trade rules, in order to safeguard China’s fundamental interests and promote common development. They should pay attention to promoting the management level of the work abroad, strengthen the ideological and political work, optimize rules and regulations and prevent all kinds of risks. They should also pay attention to promoting the overall quality of the staff abroad, cultivating a high-quality team of economic diplomacy which has a firm political stand, perfect capabilities and excellent behaviors.
