Jordan to Place a Protective Tariff on Imported Iron

Officials say Jordan's cabinet decided to place a protective tariff on imported iron. The tariff charge standards in the first year was 80 dinars per ton. It's 70 dinars per ton in the second year and 60 dinars per ton in the third year.

Insiders revealed that Jordan local steel plant complain to Jordan Ministry of Industry and Trade for the loss led by the increasing numbers of imported rebar

Annual output of nine Jordan's steel plants was about 520,000 tons and annua local consumption was 540,000 tons. Imported iron is used to make up for the gap.

It is predicted that Jordan industrial and commercial circles would protest the decision because trade protection would harm their benefits.
