On June 16, 2015, the 3rd Seminar on the Cross-Strait Cooperative Development of Modern Business Service Industry was held in Taipei. The Seminar was sponsored jointly by the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce and Taiwan Business Development Institute. The Honorary Chairman of Association of Economy and Trade Across Taiwan Strait (AETATS) Fang Aiqiang and the Chairman of Taiwan Business Development Institute Shen Rongjin attended the seminar and made speeches.
Fang said that the signing of Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) in 2010 opened a new mileage of cross-strait economic and system cooperation. It is proved by the 5-year facts that ECFA is a smart move that could stand the double test of time and practice, and could benefit both sides across the strait especially the small and medium size enterprises, bringing tangible benefits to the people across the strait. With the mainland’s economic development entering into the “new normal”, the production and consumption modes see profound changes, the market supply and demand witness deep adjustment, the modern information technology enjoys rapid development, and the development trends of liberalization and sharing, coordination and integration, intelligence and efficiency of business service industry are even obvious. Against the background, the cooperation of the mainland and Taiwan in modern business service industry is of great significance. With the rising of “Internet Plus”, promoting the development of business service industry driven by e-commerce has become the new economic growth point and new force of social aggregation.
Fang said that the bilateral cooperation in service industry not only has wide range, but also has high complementarity, enjoying a great potential. The mainland is willing to share with the Taiwan compatriots the development opportunities at first, and is willing to open to Taiwan with priority. He also put forward three suggestions that the liberalization of the service market across the strait should be fair, not just equal, the interaction of the industry should be cooperation, not merging, and the competition among enterprises should be striving and creating not fighting with malignity.
The Chairman of Taiwan Business Development Institute Shen Rongjin said in his speech that Taiwan’s service industry has become a major force of economic development, and the importance of the service industry to the economic growth, production value and employment of Taiwan each day. He hoped that, through the Seminar on the Cross-Strait Cooperative Development of Business Service Industry, the think tank of the two sides could cooperate with each other, in order to promote the common development of modern service industry across the strait. He hoped that both the mainland and Taiwan would grasp the development advantages, coordinate with the industry, the government, the institute and research, look forward to the future, broaden the international view and drive the innovative development.
At the seminar, the person in charge of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce and that of Taiwan Business Development Institute made prospective theme speeches on the development of modern business service industry across the strait respectively, and the responsible man of the departments in charge of business service industry across the strait made the detail interpretation on the supporting policies and measures of the service industry across the strait.
