Vale Awarded Abb a $103 Million Contract for Systems at a Vale's Iron Ore Mine

Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale has awarded ABB a $103 million contract for systems at a Vale's iron ore mine in northern Brazil. According to ABB, the deal is part of a project by Vale to expand its capacity.

ABB's contract follows a $140 million deal for the first phase of the S11D project to install automation and electrical equipment for the process plant and commission the primary transmission substation, the company said.

ABB will supply a 230-kilovolt substation to connect the mine to the electricity grid and to 42 secondary substations.

According to ABB, the S11D Carajas iron ore deposit is expected to produce 90 million tons of the product per year.
