Programming a Garage Door Opener Remote
A garage door opener is a motorized device opening and closing the garage doors, as we all know. While some of them are controlled by switches on the garage wall themselves, there are some controlled by remote control as well. Step 1 - The Origins of the Remote
To begin with, you will have to find out the spot where the antenna comes out from the garage door opener motor. Then you will have to see where is the learn button, or a set of switches. Once you find that you may need to remove the lens cover from the motor head. In case you cannot find the antenna see if there is a wall mounted external receiver with antenna, with a removable cover.
Step 2 - Start Programming
If you are programming the opener with the help of the learn function, push that button on the motor. There is 30 second time limit, once the light turns on and glows steadily. Once this is done, next thing is to press the corresponding button on the remote. Press and hold that button and then stop once the motor light starts blinking instead of being stable.
Step 3 - Switch Opener
In case yours is a switch type opener, take the cover off the motor unit or the wall mounted receiver, after seeing where the antenna is located. Expect to see 8, 9 or even 12 switches having 2 or 3 positions each.
Step 4 - Location of Switches
Last, but not the least, for programming a garage door opener, you will need to open the battery cover of the remote and locate the switches. For instance, "Open = Off / Closed = On". Set every switch of the remote to the exact one on the same position on the motor. You will need a small screw driver or pen for moving the switches.
There! That's it! Now you will have to close the battery cover and then you will need to test the opener. If the programming has been done correctly and the switches are matching, you are done! But there is just one thing, that although this is how the programming is done, if this doesn't work, you might have to refer to a manual or check on the Internet.
