When it comes to designing - or perhaps redesigning if you are opting for a renovation project - the interior of a room, many people overlook the finer details, which more often than not can be the make-or-break elements which tie together the final design of a space in the home.
People are arguably becoming more adventurous with how they want their homes to look. Interior designer Jo Hamilton, who has run her own consultancy for 15 years, said: "People are wanting to be creative and to show their own personalities within their interiors." She added that individuals are picking out individual pieces and materials to inject some of their own character into rooms.
While this creativity should be applauded, it is vital that people keep their end design in mind and make sure they consider all of the various elements, from more obvious ones such as the furniture and curtains to less obvious features such as the finish on the flooring and how a room will be lit. This way, the finished product will be comprehensive, complementary and work together as one harmonious masterpiece of interior design.
Illustrating this point is award-winning London-based professional interior design company - Purple Design - which highlighted how doors are often disregarded when planning how a room will look. Orla Collins, a designer at the firm, likened them to shoes, saying that they seldom get the same consideration as the rest of the 'outfit'. Like lights, they are yet another feature that homeowners must be careful to give as much due consideration to.
As Louise Rocco, interior stylist and managing director at Hot House Interiors, says: "Make sure you consider lighting from the planning stages of your renovation project," saying that the earlier on individuals consider these aspects to their design scheme, the less likely they are to run into problems further down the line with their project.
