The world’s largest sky lantern was constructed of 72 small sky lanterns, but did it ever take flight? After some tedious trial and error efforts, this extra large sky lantern did finally get its chance at lift off. The popular sky lantern source Wish Lantern, received a recent blog submission from another Wish Lantern seller in China. The photos were taken at the end of August of 2013 and it was part of an annual festival project in China.

The project was created by lantern manufacturers in China for the annual Hungry Ghost Festival in Yu Lan. This 100-year old traditional Chinese festival takes place on the 15th night of the seventh month of the Chinese calendar.
