To store or transport various gases or liquids one requires storage vessels whether it is for industrial, household or medical purposes. Some of the examples of such vessels are pressurized tanks, cryogenic storage tanks and dewar flasks among others. It can be of two types - cylinders that can store gases under pressure and cryogenic storage vessels that hold liquid gases.
Pressurized storage tanks
Storage tanks are double-walled and insulated for safe storage. The capacity of tanks can vary from gallons to barrels or even greater. These tanks are robust and are one of the best ways to store gas or liquid securely. Oxygen and nitrogen are two elements for which these tanks are extensively used.
The key advantage of these storage vessels is they can be easily mounted in spite of their huge size. Whether one wants to mount them in trunk chassis, railroad cars or stationary vessels, these tanks don't create much hassle and thus, are easier to transport from one place to another. These tanks are pressurized at standard pressure and the temperature inside is suitable for the element within i.e. neither too high nor too low.
Cryogenic storage tanks
Cryogenic tanks are specifically manufactured compressed gas cylinders used to store cryogenic gases. They are widely used for liquid nitrogen or liquid oxygen (also known as LN2 and LOX tanks respectively). These tanks are generally thermally insulated and are designed in context to the characteristics of the matter to be stored or transported. Cryogenic storage tanks are capable enough to bear extreme temperatures.
Both pressurized as well as cryogenic tanks are doubled layered with an insulating layer. They also possess safety valves between inner and outer surface for extra protection of the tanks.
If one is using liquid oxygen tanks, it is necessary to read the instructions and warnings specified on the equipment. Also, one must be accustomed to refilling LOX tanks because by taking these precautions one can prevent major catastrophe.
Liquid oxygen is quite portable and if one is using portable liquid oxygen in smaller tanks it is advisable to have a large oxygen tank available. One can use a large liquid oxygen tank to refill smaller tanks. It is also necessary to periodically check that large oxygen tanks are full enough. Additionally, be ready with the backup plan for oxygen delivery in case of an emergency. One must consult his/her physician to recommend a backup plan.
Steam Vaporizers
Along with major industrial application, steam vaporiser is popular for medical and health-related issues. Some health care professionals recommend vaporisers to patients who are suffering from common flu, cold or other respiratory ailments as steam vaporisers can provide relief. Steam Vaporisers are beneficial to alleviate cough and irritating throat.
