What is the first definition that rings a bell when you talk about a sink stopper? Stopping water from draining out of your sink, right? Well, you are correct! It is a secure stopper usually fixed in bathroom or kitchen sinks to stop the water from getting drained. Let's say, last night you had a party at your place, you cooked good food.. served savvy wines.. and eventually came up with loads of dishes to wash. So to do all the dishes you need to soak them for a while in soap water, so that they come out clean and odorless. Such a soaking could be done using a sink stopper in your kitchen sink or wash basin. This is the basic idea of installing a stopper.
Agreed that it relieves all your workload and favorably you can count on tossing out as many dishes you wish to. Well doing that is no harm as long as you are facing the surface daily. But let me tell you there are rare times you might take a look what's exactly happening beneath the sink! And those 'rare times' are times when the sink has got buggered, i.e (a cloggged kitchen sink) and now you don't know what to do. I guess that'll be the only time I'll see you simply standing and scratching your head, instead of kitchen cleaning (wink!). Well don't you worry, if something that sort has just come up, I have a simple solution towards fixing the same.
Sink Stopper Repair
They are practically made up of plastic material which are fixed into the drain of the sink. It has two chief parts: a pop-up ball rod and pop-up rod. Beneath the sink stopper there is a slot which inserts the pop-up ball rod into the drain pipe. The other end of the ball rod projects in the outward direction from the sink and connects the pop-up rod sophisticatedly. This is the part which goes all the way to the faucet and motions the sink stopper in an up and down condition. Now see the sink drain repair procedure in case your stopper has broken and you wish to fix it yourself.
You'll Just Need: A Sink Stopper Replacement and a Pipe Wrench.
Procedure
- To the pop-up ball rod there'll be a nut attached. Loosen it up and remove that first. It's located below the stopper and on the backside of the sink drain.
- Once you unfix that, pull the rod out from the drain pipe's rear end with both your hands.
- Now it's time for a stopper removal from the top of the drain. This is easy to do with hands.
- The moment you finish this activity, replace the new sink stopper into the drain. Ensure that the loop beneath the stopper is in alignment with the pop-up ball rod.
- In this manner, you have successfully installed a new stopper into the buggered drain.
- Now time to fix the pop-up ball rod back to its original position. Grab hold of the rod and put it at the rear end of the sink drain. Try to fix this job properly.
- Fasten the nuts of the pop-up ball rod into its proper place and once you are through, apply tape on the working area. This will prevent a water leak.
The final point after doing all the following procedure is to run some water into the sink to check if the repairing work is not ill-fitted. If the sink retains the water from leaking, rejoice that you have done a good job!
Overloading your sink with too much of food items or in case of women working there is some hair fall into the drain of the sink, etc. Due to these reasons drain clogs are likely to occur. So make sure you avoid such situations. Always use a sink stopper while cleaning dishes and other kitchen appliances, so that if there is any sort of waste or garbage, it would remain floated up in the blocked water. Manually pick them up and dispose it off elsewhere and not down the drain.
