Shower doors are the perfect alternative for a shower curtain. However, there is a lot of confusion when it comes to selecting a shower door. There are many different types like enclosed door, plain glass door and sliding glass doors. One also needs to choose between frameless or framed door which best suits your bathroom designs.

Sliding glass doors are one of the many ideas for small bathrooms. They give the bathroom a neat look. The following paragraphs will provide you with the required details regarding their installation and removal.

Installing sliding glass shower doors is an easy project that can be undertaken at home. They are good to cover your shower enclosures. It is relatively cheaper to install the glass door on your own. The tools needed to complete this job are shower door kit with the complete hardware, caulk, drill bit, hammer, masking tape, measuring tape hacksaw and a center punch. Following instructions will help you to understand how to install them.

Step I: The first step is to measure the width of your shower opening for the door to be installed. Mark this area on the door track. Cut the door track with a hacksaw in the required size.

Step II: The next thing you need to do is install the track and use masking tape to keep it in its place. Install the door jamb in the track. One side of the door jamb will have shorter legs. This side needs to face the shower wall. You will need a pencil to mark the position of the track on your bathtub surround.

Step III: Once you have marked the position of the track, remove the door jamb and the track. Punch holes in the marked positions with the help of a 3/16 inch drill bit. Once the holes are dug, clean the area and hammer the plastic anchors firmly. Plastic anchors are part of the hardware that comes with the entire glass door kit.

Step IV: You will need a watertight sealant to hold the glass door in place. Use the sealant that is specifically made to be used in the bathroom. Apply some caulking (watertight sealant) on the area where the door is to be installed. Mount the door and the door jamb along with the bumpers and washers that are a part of the door hardware.

Step V: Next, the top and bottom track need to be cut so that the track fits perfectly within the frame. Hang up the door from the top track by getting the rollers in the inside rails. Align the door according to the door panel frame and screw it tight through the slots. Cover the door jambs with some caulking to complete the installation process. Fix the handle, if not already on the door. There! Your sliding glass shower door is installed.

If you are tired of your old glass doors and are looking forward to removing it, the following instructions will help you. It is very easy to remove the sliding glass shower doors and you can do it rather than calling the 'guy' to do it for you. You will need screwdriver, pry bar or a crowbar, scrubber and caulk remover to remove the door.

Step I: Remove all the screws that hold the shower door against the door frame and track. Stand inside the shower, clutch the door in both hands and lift the bottom of the door as high as possible. Tilt the bottom of the door towards you and pull it off from the top track. Your shower door is removed!! You will have to repeat the same procedure, for the second door, if you have two doors. Take care to see that the glass door is firmly held so as to prevent it from falling and shattering.

Step II: Next you will need to remove the door frame and the track. These are usually screwed up together. They are also sealed with caulk for firmer grip. You can scrape off the caulk with the help of a utility knife or use a caulk remover. Unscrew the track and loosen it with the help of a crowbar. The track can now be removed easily by your hands. Remove it carefully and scrub off the area to make it clean.

These doors have many advantages; they are easy to clean, prevent water from entering the dry areas and they have a longer life. Bathroom cleaning also becomes easy. It is also easy to install one in your bathroom or remove the existing one for cleaning purpose or for replacing with a new one.
