A fireplace is usually the focal point of a room. It makes the room look beautiful and elegant. The feel of warmth it gives is just the best, making it a must have of your home decor. But what if you don't have one? Heard about fake fireplaces? Yes, if you don't have a real fireplace, or if you are on a tight budget, then these fireplaces are the best ones to opt for. Various ideas have become one of the popular ways to spruce up the home decor. These are surely not for heating purpose, but give a classy feel to your room. These fireplaces, made perfectly, can give an impression of a real one.

Building a Faux Fireplace

Firstly, decide the right place for this fireplace. Next, get a fireplace mantel. There is a huge variety in mantel designs available. Remember that you can later easily replace the fireplace by a real one or an electric fireplace, so decide rightly on the place and the mantel.

Material Required Wood logs Small portable fan Red bulb Satin or some lightweight, shiny cloth (red, orange and yellow) Hot glue gun Procedure

Step 1

Start by arranging the logs. Cut them according to the required size and start placing them inside the mantel. Place them in a way to create a natural look, do not clutter, do not just place them side by side or on top of one another. Start with 3 on the bottom, askew from each other, next place 2 on these and a single on the top. You can paint them in between to give a charcoal look.

Step 2

Take the red, orange and yellow colored cloth pieces. Cut them randomly to have uneven shaped strips of about 8 to 12 inches in length. Make sure all are not same in shape, so as to have the right effect.

Step 3

Now, glue these cloth strips randomly to the logs using a hot glue gun. Make sure you glue them on the backsides of the logs, don't be very systematic. Also, remember that you do not glue them to a single log.

Step 4

Now take the fan and place it behind the logs, this will help the cloth strips move. Its plates must face upwards. Confirm that it is not visible from front side. Secure it using a masking tape. Next add a red colored bulb for an ultimate effect of a fireplace. This must also be out of sight. Finish by fixing a glass screen, and it's done! You can beautify the mantel with some creative ideas using decorative items or just keep it simple.

You can also opt for heaters. These are decorative and great way to add that element of 'warmth' to your room. Moreover, these are easy to maintain and there is a huge variety available in these. But make sure you work well on its panel and the mantel, making it look natural and match well with each other. Just follow the procedure to have it right there, you can add other elements, but make sure they do not make it look fake.
