Waterfalls are beautiful to look at and beautiful to hear. The sound of a waterfall drowns out pesky background noises and emits its own lovely sound, comprised of white noise. If you have a garden, you may wish to add a waterfall to it. If you are unsure of where to start or how to plan your waterfall, this article will help you out.

Ideally, a waterfall will be located on a gently sloping hill. However, if your garden is flat, you can still have a waterfall with the aid of a pump.

To create a waterfall, you will need a basic pool and pump. These alone will be enough to get the water flowing. But to make your waterfall look natural, you can find or purchase river stones and stack them in the waterfall to create a realistic effect. Place stones in the pool below and at the top of the waterfall. You may wish to have the water bubbling out of a pile of stones.

There are many kinds of water fountains to choose from. A waterfall can be wall fountain and contain live fish, or it can be made of slate or pebbles. The pump-and-basin type are most common in gardens, and there are several types of those to choose from as well.

You can make a cascaded waterfall, which means that your waterfall will be tiered and water will flow from one stone to another to another, and finally into a pool of water, with as many stones as you'd like in the interim.

As previously mentioned, the water can flow up from a pile of stones.

Or you can create a stream by digging one in your garden, putting pond lining in it, then filling it with stones. The pump should raise water from the end of the fountain back to its beginning.

If you locate your waterfall and a stream in a place where you will need to frequently cross it, it's a good idea to install a bridge over it. If you do not wish to install a bridge, it is best to locate your waterfall in a place where it is out of the way of your common path, but also where it is easily visible for your enjoyment.

Add water plants and decorations to your taste. In the end you will have a beautiful waterfall that can be enjoyed by all who see it.
