PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, announced today that it has received the 2012 Ringier Technology Innovation Award for the Plastics Industry for its breakthrough Therma-Tech™ thermally conductive polymer formulations. These advanced materials have been recognized for their role in making sustainable light-emitting diode (LED) innovations possible.
"This distinction reflects PolyOne's success in developing specialized technologies that foster sustainability and growth in Asia," said Mark Crist, vice president, key account management and vice president of Asia, PolyOne Corporation. "We are committed to developing solutions that help our customers achieve their sustainability goals, satisfy marketplace demand, and stand apart from their competition."
An independent panel of judges composed of experts from China's foremost industry associations, universities and research institutes selected PolyOne's new specialty material for recognition. The award specifically recognizes Therma-Tech™ thermally conductive grades for LEDs (launched at Chinaplas 2012) as an advanced solution that enables customers to differentiate their product offerings, improve manufacturing efficiencies and make future innovation possible.
Replacing metal heat sinks with these new materials makes it possible to consolidate parts and better manage hot spots, resulting in longer LED lifetimes as well as reduced weight, lower manufacturing costs, and improved in-service performance.
"We are proud to receive this award from Ringier," said Eng Guan Soh, general manager, PolyOne Specialty Engineered Materials Asia. "China is the leading producer of LED lamps, which makes this innovation particularly important to lighting manufacturers in the region."
Therma-Tech materials are also used for heat management in applications across a number of markets, including electrical / electronics, transportation, and appliances.
